Wiltshire Junior Chess can help with materials for use in schools, including books, teaching guides, how to run a chess club, and loan of equipment.
We can also give you information on the British Chess Federation 'Scheme of Excellence' for junior players.

National Primary Schools Team Competition:
This competition is run by EPSCA (English Primary Schools Chess Association), and is for teams of 5 plus 1 reserve, at U9 & U11 level. The zonal competitions start in March, with semi-finals at various Pontins sites in May and June. If your school is interested, contact Tony Corfe by end of October. Lawn Junior School, Swindon have qualified for the finals this year, both their U9 & U11 sections - a brilliant performance for a Wiltshire school!.

British Land UK Chess Challenge:
The biggest tournament in the world for school pupils. In 2005, 56,000 children took part!. The first round takes place in schools and clubs in the Spring term. Prizes for all competitors. Easy and enjoyable to run. Winners go on to take part in a regional 'Megafinal' (takes place in Wiltshire in May), and players doing well at this event go on to the national 'Gigafinal', which takes place in July. All local school clubs are encouraged to take part in this competition.

Brown Jack Chess Club
The club welcomes junior players, and several juniors attend on a regular basis. The club meets at the Brown Jack public house in Wroughton on a Monday evening (in a non-smoking skittle alley, away from the bar area). Trowbridge Chess Club

Salisbury Chess Club
Meets at 7pm on Thursday nights at The Village Freehouse in Wilton Road. A small club of about 14 members. Open all year. Visitors, including juniors, are welcome to come along.
